Oktava ML19 (1984)
Restored new-old-stock ribbon microphone pair with upgraded XLRs and original clips.
These microphones have been completely serviced, including a full cleaning of the ribbon motor, replacement of deteriorated foam with custom-cut inserts, and installation of new ribbons by Cole Suddarth (Cole Picks Vintage). The original cables have been upgraded with a modern XLR connector, and the mics have been tested to confirm proper performance and matched tonality. Both mics include their original mic clips.
The ML19 is essentially the Soviet interpretation of the RCA BK5 but, once properly restored and optimized, it outperforms it in most studio applications. I’ve used ML19s for over twenty years in countless scenarios including lead vocals, string quartets, chunky riffs, kick drums, overheads, banjo, and more. It arguably has the best performance-to-price ratio of any vintage ribbon microphone on the market.
While you can certainly find other ML19s for much less, they are guaranteed to require servicing to perform their best. Between repairs, shipping, and testing costs, you’ll likely spend as much or more than the price of this fully restored, ready-to-use microphone, in addition to the hassle and wait time required to have it properly serviced.
If you’re interested in hearing these microphones in action, we have a full studio recording made entirely with eight restored ML19s just like the ones we are selling. Please reach out if you’d like me to share the original recording session, including stems, an unprocessed mix, and a fully finished version.
